Sometimes a mouse can get into a beehive, attracted by the warmth and smell of honey. The bees respond immediately, defending their nest. They attack the intruder together until it stops moving. However, a problem arises that cannot be solved by force: the dead body is too large to remove. If left there, it will begin to rot and can endanger the entire colony. Bees have their own way of dealing with this. They cover the body layer by layer with propolis — a substance collected from tree resins and enriched with enzymes produced by the bees themselves. Propolis has antibacterial, antifungal, and preservative properties. It isolates the intruder’s body, preventing odors and decay, protecting the hive from disease. This is one of the most unusual examples of hygiene in the insect world. The inability to eliminate a danger does not mean surrender: bees simply neutralize it, maintaining order and balance within the hive.
