80-year-old Chinese woman communicates with an AI clone of her deceased son
The son of an elderly woman from Shandong province died in a car accident in 2025. The family decided to hide this news from her because she is over 80 and suffers from a heart condition. The deceased's son contacted AI expert Zhang Zewe and asked to create a digital version of his father. The family provided the development team with numerous photos, videos, and audio recordings
of the deceased, so they could make the digital double as accurate as possible.
According to South China Morning Post, the elderly woman now communicates with her AI son every day via a video‑call app, advises him to take care of himself, dress warmer, eat well, and says how much she misses him. He, in response, tells her that he works in another city, promises to follow her advice and says he will come as soon as he earns enough money.
Relatives claim that the AI‑created copy of the man is very accurate, replicates his appearance and mannerisms in detail, and even has the same habit of leaning forward during conversation.
