🗝️ THE THRESHOLD OF WORLDS
When escape leads you straight to hell
You cannot escape a demon if it already lives within you.
Its red eyes flashed in the darkness.
Dima froze for a moment, not understanding what it was.
One second — and darkness again.
He stood there in bewilderment for a few seconds, deciding that he had imagined it, and kept walking.
Lighting the way with the narrow beam of his flashlight.
Visiting the forest at night had been Dima’s dream since early childhood.
But life took a different turn.
At fifteen, he stumbled.
He listened to the older boys who insisted there was another way.
A way that was easy.
A way that was fast.
Fate had not been kind to him.
His father drank and died when Dima was only five.
His mother, working three jobs, couldn’t bear the blow.
Her nerves gave out, and she too became an alcoholic.
Dima was left alone.
He had to solve life’s problems on his own.
Eleven years passed unnoticed.
Dima grew up in the orphanage, passing through seven circles of hell.
Until he met a man who took him under his wing.
His name was Sergei.
He looked like a kind old man.
But there was sometimes such a shadow in his gaze that Dima felt a chill deep inside.
Sergei offered him a job.
A chance to change his life.
Dima, desperate to break out of the grayness, agreed without hesitation.
He dreamed of freedom.
Of a new life.
The first few months went well.
But gradually Sergei’s demands grew.
Every failure brought an icy fear to Dima’s heart.
Soon he realized:
Sergei was involved with dangerous people.
And their affairs were sinking deeper and deeper into darkness.
One night, on his way home, Dima remembered the forest.
His childhood dream.
He decided: it was time to leave.
To run from Sergei.
From this world.
But he underestimated his enemy.
Sergei had no intention of letting his property go so easily.
That night Dima entered the forest.
Darkness closed in around him instantly.
The flashlight caught from the gloom only a small circle of ground beneath his feet.
Suddenly he heard a rustle.
His heart began to beat faster.
It’s just the wind.
— Dima reassured himself.
But a sticky fear had already clenched his chest.
He stopped.
Listening.
Silence.
And then, ahead of him, two red pinpoints flashed again.
Dima froze.
His breath caught.
The lights were drawing closer.
Taking the shape of a silhouette.
It was Sergei.
— You should not have come here,
— he said with a cold smile.
The kind that made your skin crawl.
— Do you think you can get away from me?
Dima was seized by terror.
— I don’t want this anymore! — he shouted.
But his voice betrayed a tremble.
— You’re mine, Dima. And you’re not going anywhere.
In Sergei’s eyes burned the same hellish red lights as deep in the forest.
Dima ran.
But the forest seemed like an endless labyrinth.
The trees creaked.
The shadows whispered his name.
The darkness devoured him step by step.
He tripped over a root and fell to the ground.
When he поднял his head, hundreds of red eyes were burning before him.
They looked at him with curiosity and hatred.
These were not just eyes.
These were the souls of those who also dreamed of freedom, but could not escape their demons.
Dima understood a terrible truth:
He was not alone.
He had become part of something greater.
Part of that eternal darkness that had swallowed him long ago.
The dream of freedom turned out to be a deception.
You cannot escape Sergei when darkness already lives within you.
The night swallowed his screams.
And the forest fell silent again.
Only red eyes remained in the gloom.
Continuing to watch over those who dare to dream, not understanding that the exit has long been closed.
