In South Korea a man landed in jail because he posted an AI-generated photo of a wolf on social media
According to the media the very valuable wolf named Nykku escaped from the O-World zoo in the city of Daejeon, breaking through a tunnel under the fence. Authorities and activists launched a large-scale operation to search for and capture the escapee, and President Lee Jae Myung publicly prayed for the wolf's return.
In the midst of the search, a photo appeared online showing Nykku walking down a city street, and police headed to the area depicted in the picture. It later turned out that the image was generated by a forty‑year‑old man, causing the search teams to waste a lot of time.
Nine days after the wolf's escape, it was finally found, and the prankster was detained; he is now under investigation and awaiting trial. In interrogation he admitted that he did it “for fun”. He now faces up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won ($6,700 ₽506 k) for misinformation and disrupting police work.
