Deadline: Disney is working on a live-action series about the friendly ghost Casper
- Disney has secured the rights to adapt the story of the friendly ghost Casper, for which five companies were competing. This was reported by journalists from the Deadline portal.
- Rob Letterman, known in part for the film Pokémon Detective Pikachu, will direct and co-write the live-action series. Steven Spielberg will serve as one of the producers — a role he also held in the production of the feature film adaptation released in 1995.
- No details about the show’s plot are available yet. According to the media, it will have a vibe similar to Netflix’s Wednesday.
- The ghost is expected to be portrayed using CGI. No actors have been attached to the project yet.
- Deadline noted that the Casper adaptation will be a rare release on Disney+ that will not be the company’s own intellectual property and will not be an adaptation of any book.
- Back in 2022, the streaming service Peacock began working on a similar show, but production never got off the ground.
