Today is the day of the summer solstice

Today, June 21, at 11:24 Moscow time, the summer solstice occurred. This means that the Sun, moving along the ecliptic, reached its highest point in the Northern Hemisphere. On this day at Moscow’s latitude, the day will last 17 hours 33 minutes and will be the longest this year, after which it will begin to shorten.

Many folk traditions and beliefs are associated with the summer solstice. Our ancestors considered it important to greet the sunrise on this day, believing that it
brings luck for the entire coming yearly cycle. This was also linked to
traditional actions: waking before sunrise, washing with dew,
collecting medicinal herbs and greeting the first sun rays, which symbolized strength and renewal.
