Cunning Employers of China
In China, there is such a practice. Some companies give employees cats to increase their loyalty and reduce staff turnover. Management pays for the care, treatment and feeding of the pets, as well as provides allowances for their upkeep.
However, the employment contracts contain a special clause: upon termination, the employee must return the cat to the company. Thus, the “gift” becomes a tool of psychological retention — employees find it hard to quit because they do not want to “abandon” their pet.
On Chinese social networks, the topic sparked a heated debate: some call it “genius marketing,” others — an ethical manipulation.
The discussion was prompted by a story from Hangzhou (Zhejiang province), which was confirmed by Chinese media, in particular the Guangming Daily portal.
