I was thinking... People are afraid of monsters. Right? Right. Monsters are supposedly evil, they sit in our closets/under our beds, and then they crawl out and scare/kill us. But like... what for? I can still understand monsters that feed on people, or need their body parts, like, say, Teke Teke, for example. She wants her legs back, so she takes them from people — at least there’s some motivation there. But why would some ordinary monster that eats ordinary food and lives an ordinary life want to kill me? Why would it have to contort itself into horribly uncomfortable positions to fit under my bed or sit in a stuffy closed closet, getting poked by wool sweaters? And what do they do when I’m not home, say? Do they crawl out and watch YouTube on the TV? Paint with my paints? Sit there laughing, planning how they’ll scare me? WHAT?! And what do they eat before they’ve eaten me? Steal cookies? Make themselves sandwiches? And why are they considered evil at all if most of the time no one even sees them? Well, let’s take any paranormal entity. Slenderman, for example. I haven’t heard a single fact-based story where he kills anyone. Damn, probably every fifth teenager has summoned him, so why didn’t humanity go extinct back then? Maybe he’s just a person with gigantism and an old facial injury that was stitched up badly, and now it looks like his face is completely covered in skin. That happens too

Well, it’s a cartoon cat. Well, it prowls around abandoned places. Well, it eats people. Well, that’s because there’s nothing else on abandoned sites. No one has ever tried bringing it meat or cat food. Or maybe it came here from some cartoon and is scared? Scared animals do all sorts of weird stuff. What’s needed here isn’t exorcists, but animal control. Or ghosts. Why are they even afraid of them? They’re the souls of ordinary people. What can a ghost even do? It has no body, it can’t take something and hit you with it. It can’t hit you at all, it just passes through you. And again, they’re just people without bodies. They’re even safer than ordinary people. If an ordinary person can hurt you, then how could a ghost hurt you? And people aren’t only evil, there are lots of sane ones too
