Riding is easier than walking
Despite the serious difficulties with walking and maintaining balance characteristic of Parkinson's disease, some patients unexpectedly retain the ability to ride a bicycle confidently. In everyday life they may find it hard to take even a few steps, they easily lose balance and may fall, yet on a bike their movements appear almost normal. This phenomenon, known as paradoxical kinesia, remains insufficiently studied, but in practice bicycle therapy is often used to alleviate the disease's symptoms.
