Glass suit
So, holidays, time for creating all sorts of stuff, so my friend and I argued that I wouldn't be able to calculate the dimensions for a glass suit for an average American
So...
So, the average female height in the US is 162 cm. Male – 175 cm. As I understand it, the suit is unisex. So we take the average of the average heights of both sexes. That’s 168.5, round to 169. Add roughly +10 cm on all sides so that one can get into it and there is air, because getting into a tight glass suit is physically impossible. So the suit’s height is about 179–180 cm. But a person has not only height but also width. We won’t get bogged down in anatomy and will simply make a cube with arms and legs (arms and legs are separate glass cubes attached to the main one). The widest part of a person is the shoulders. The average shoulder width for women in the US is 37 cm. Men – 41 cm. The average is 39. +10 cm gives 49. Now thickness. The thickest part of a person is the waist and hips. The average waist circumference for women in the US is 98 cm. Men – 102 cm. The average is exactly 100. But that’s a circumference, not a thickness. I know this isn’t correct, but we’ll treat the waist as an ideal circle. The diameter would be almost 32 cm. +10 cm gives 42. So the Max suit is roughly 180 cm tall, 49 cm wide and 42 cm thick. But again, we need to account for arms and legs. The average leg length for women in the US is 73 cm. Men – 80 cm. The average is 76.5, round to 77. Subtract this from the total height of the rectangular prism: 180 – 77 = 103 cm. The average leg circumference for women in the US is 34 cm. Men – 40 cm. The average is 37. We’ll treat the leg as a circle. Diameter about 12 cm. Add 10 cm → 22 cm. So we have two rectangular prisms 22 cm wide and deep and 77 cm high, and another rectangular prism 103 cm high, 49 cm long and 42 cm thick. Now the arms. First we find at what height they are. The average shoulder height for women in the US is 131 cm. Men – 142 cm. The average is 136.5 cm, round to 137 cm, so the arms will be located at roughly 137 cm height. Now arm length. The average female arm length in the US is 56 cm. Male – 79 cm. The average is 67.5 cm, round to 68 cm. +10 cm = 78. The average arm thickness for women in the US is 32 cm. Men – 34 cm. The average is 33 cm. We’ll treat the arms as a circle. Diameter almost 11 cm. +10 cm gives 21.
I'm pretty sure there are a lot of mistakes there, don't judge harshly, I already deserve a reward for even remembering that mathematics exists during the holidays. And yes, I understand that people shorter or taller than average will find it uncomfortable. Those who are taller will just bump their heads against the ceiling, while those who are shorter will just hang there, because they won't be able to reach the floor with their feet.
