Lesha Limonov unveiled terrifying tick earrings: a new ugly fashion trend
Belarusian designer Lesha Limonov, who has recently gone viral online regularly with unusual concepts, recently came up with perhaps the most terrifying piece of jewelry for Belarusians. No, it’s not some kind of skull ring and not even a pendant inscribed “Belarus,” but tick earrings.
— I remember once seeing ticks on a dog: its fur was covered with them, like beads. I decided to turn that impression into an idea. The tick reminded me of a pearl earring, like in a Vermeer painting, — Limonov said in a video visualizing the idea with the help of AI.
Perhaps these tick earrings don’t look that creepy, especially from a distance. But the designer showed what they might look like, for example, as a dozen pieces of jewelry on a bag or clothing.
“I’m itching all over,” “It’s creepy and beautiful at the same time,” “Ugh, disgusting! Where can I buy them?” — these are roughly the kinds of comments left under Lesha’s video.
It turned out there are indeed unexpectedly many fans of this kind of ugly fashion. Someone even suggested a brand name for tick-themed jewelry — Encephalit. But the designer says that, despite the hype, he does not plan to start production of the jewelry yet, although he does not rule out that a limited number of custom-made pieces may still appear.
— Some projects I do simply to show what they could look like, fleshing out sketches and ideas with AI. Sometimes I make one-off pieces if they’re easy to produce. Today singer Suzanna wrote to me, saying: “I want earrings with ticks.” So now I don’t know what to do.
